The Challenge

The headwaters of the Huaihe river are important for the provision and regulation of the water flow of the gigantic Huaihe River and contain rich and valuable ecosystems and species. At present, however, many of these natural resources are under pressure from illegal timber exploitation, unregulated conversion of wetlands to farmland and over-collection and trade of traditional medicinal plants and ancient trees from mountain ranges.
